Welcome to this five-day photography adventure through Iceland, a land of stunning contrasts and jaw-dropping landscapes. From the vibrant cityscape of Reykjavik to the towering Kirkjufell Mountain and the iconic Búðir Black Church, this workshop will guide you through some of the country’s most photogenic sites. Along the way, you'll learn the techniques to capture the drama of waterfalls, the beauty of Iceland’s volcanic terrain, and the serenity of its remote villages.
Day 1: Reykjavik – The Urban Charm & Iconic Architecture
Our adventure kicks off in Reykjavik, where the capital’s unique architecture and dynamic street life provide the perfect introduction to Iceland’s creativity and history. We begin with Hallgrímskirkja Church, an architectural marvel, where you'll learn how to capture its modernist design inspired by Icelandic basalt columns. From the top, panoramic views of the city and beyond await.
Next, we'll visit Sun Voyager (Sólfar), a tribute to Iceland's Viking heritage. Its sleek, modern lines offer stunning photographic opportunities, particularly at golden hour when the light enhances its majestic form. We’ll also wander the bustling Laugavegur Street, Reykjavik’s main shopping district, full of vibrant street art, quirky architecture, and city life—perfect for those wanting to capture the essence of urban culture. Finally, a walk through Reykjavik’s Street Art scene reveals colorful murals and unique graffiti, offering endless opportunities for creative composition.
Day 2: The Golden Circle – Nature’s Grand Spectacles
On Day 2, we explore the Golden Circle, starting with Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most awe-inspiring falls. You’ll learn how to capture its raw power, whether it’s a misty spring day or during the golden hours of sunset. Then, we head to Þingvellir National Park, where the stunning Öxarárfoss Waterfall awaits. Nestled in a geological wonderland, this smaller yet beautiful fall is framed by mossy rocks and dramatic cliffs—an ideal location for playing with composition. We’ll also visit Faxi Waterfall, a lesser-known gem, and the mesmerizing Bruarfoss—famous for its vivid blue water.
Day 3: Geysers, & Icelandic Horses
The third day takes us further into Iceland’s natural beauty, starting with the explosive Geysir Hot Springs Area. Here, the mighty Strokkur Geyser erupts every few minutes, and you’ll have the chance to photograph the boiling geothermal pools and steam clouds rising from the earth. Then we’ll explore Kerid Crater, a striking volcanic lake with contrasting red rocks, green moss, and deep blue waters. In the afternoon, we dive into Iceland’s iconic waterfalls: Seljalandsfoss, where you can walk behind the falls for a unique perspective, and Skogafoss, known for its dramatic height and mist that often creates beautiful rainbows.
The day culminates in visits to Dyrhólaey Arch, offering panoramic views of the coastline, and the stunning Mýrdalsjökull Glacier, where ice meets volcanic rock to create stark yet beautiful contrasts.
The day concludes with the chance to photograph Iceland's Icelandic Horses—these hardy animals make for stunning portraits, especially with the dramatic Icelandic landscape as their backdrop.
Day 4: Vík & Black Sand Beaches, Dramatic Cliffs
Day 4 immerses us in the beauty of Vík and its surrounding landscapes. You’ll photograph Vík Church perched on a hill above the village, with a sweeping view of the black sand beaches and dramatic cliffs. We’ll also explore Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, with its powerful waves and iconic Reynisdrangar Sea Stacks. The Dyrhólaey Arch offers more breathtaking views, while the cliffs around Vík provide stunning opportunities to photograph nesting seabirds, including puffins in the summer.
Day 5: Snæfellsnes Peninsula – Kirkjufell & Búðir Black Church
Our final day takes us to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a region known for its volcanic landscapes, lava fields, and iconic mountain views. You’ll have the chance to photograph the striking Búðir Black Church, located on a lava field with Snæfellsjökull Glacier as its backdrop. The day culminates with a visit to Kirkjufell Mountain, often called “the most photographed mountain in Iceland.” With the picturesque Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall in the foreground, Kirkjufell provides the perfect scene for long exposure shots and capturing the essence of Iceland’s rugged beauty.

Rick's journey began as an art student in college, and has since evolved into a distinguished career. He has worked in various facets of the photography industry, including as a pro sports photographer, technical specialist for Canon USA, fine art landscape photography, and teaching. His stunning images are included in several corporate and private collections.
In addition to his professional photography, Rick is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and skills with others. He teaches workshops and online classes, where his approachable teaching style and in-depth understanding of photographic techniques help students of all levels improve their craft.

Mike Sheets
Mike has traversed the scenic landscapes from York to Lubec to Acadia, tirelessly seeking the ideal nocturnal backdrop to capture the mesmerizing night sky. Throughout his photographic journey, he has never ceased to find joy in his art, always embracing the thrilling experiences that accompany it.
Mike's teaching approach is characterized by interactivity and hands-on engagement. He firmly believes in providing immersive learning experiences to his students. You can join him on his captivating night workshops or opt for one-on-one lessons, where he imparts his knowledge of the enchanting world of photographing the night sky. Embark on this educational journey with him and discover the awe-inspiring wonders that await those who delve into the realm of night photography.
What You’ll Need:
Winter Wear Layers (waterproof layer, windproof layer).
Hiking boots for hiking over rocks and uneven terrain.
Mirrorless or DSLR camera.
Sturdy tripod and a remote shutter
A wide-angle lens, such as 14-24 mm.
A medium zoom lens, such as 24-70 mm.
A telephoto lens, like a 70-200 mm lens.
Headlamp for the night shoots.
Lens warmer to prevent humidity from fogging up your lens.
Lens wipes for keeping your equipment clean and ready
Laptop for the post-processing
Accommodations: Upon registering participants with receive contact information for headquarter hotels and additional travel and accommodation information
Activity Level: You will be enjoying the health benefits of being outdoors in nature. The days will be filled with driving short distances to locations with low impact walking to get the shots. All activities and times of day are optional. Periodic trips throughout the day will be made to and from the accommodations based upon attendance. It is suggested that everyone participate with the group whenever possible.
Skill Level: All levels from beginner, intermediate or advanced are welcomed.
Class Size: Limited to 14 photographers, non-photography driving companions are welcomed to travel with the group. Carpooling will be encouraged but not required.
Cancellation and Refund Policy:
A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 USD is required for registration. Final payment is due 90 days before the workshop's start. Deposits are non-refundable upon payment, except if your spot can be filled. A 50% credit of the deposit fee will apply to future workshops.
